Online Colleges In Alabama

Despite having a large number of colleges and universities within the state that offer online degree programs, less than 20% of Alabama’s students enrolled in Title IV institutions are enrolled for the fully-online experience. That said, the National Center for Education Statistics’ finding 2012 report that finds 16% of students in the state are enrolled in such programs is a positive. This number alone puts Alabama among the top in the nation for states where students are more actively choosing the online option. That just under 20% of the students in the state’s Title IV students are enrolled in online degree programs speaks positively to the state’s welcoming atmosphere for online education, and the resources actively provided for these types of programs both within the state and at the state’s major colleges and universities.

Several of the top schools offering online degree programs in the state are also some of the most highly ranked in the region. Among the best colleges and universities in Alabama offering online degrees, prospective students will find Amridge University, Heritage Christian University, University of West Alabama, Troy University and the University of Alabama at Birmingham. According to the U.S. News and World Report’s annual college rankings, Troy University is favorably ranked at #65 among colleges in the region (South). The University of Alabama–Birmingham is ranked well nationally, coming in at #149 among national universities.

Some of the most affordable programs can be found several of the state’s public institutions, all of which offer online learning services of some kind. Athens State University offer degrees and programs for around $6,000 a year as well, or for $257 per credit. Auburn University at Montgomery offers degree programs for around $6,700 or at a per credit cost of $281. Both Troy University and The University of Alabama offer programs for around $8,000 a year.

The University of Alabama has a wide range of degrees available. Prospective students can find learning experiences for Bachelor’s degrees, Minors degrees, Master’s degrees, Doctoral degrees and academic certificates. There are 10 Bachelor’s degree programs available through the school: Accounting, Economics, Finance, Information Systems, Management, Marketing, Health Care Management, Clinical Coding and Reimbursement, Health Information Management and Nursing. All of these are available 100% online. There are 43 Master’s degree programs available, including several in Education (such as Kinesiology education and Early Childhood Education), Accounting and wide variety of Nursing Practitioner focuses. The seven Doctoral degree programs include PhDs and in Computational Engineering and three EdS degrees, including Early Childhood Concentration, Elementary Education and Physical Education.
