Universities in Washington D.C.
District of Columbia colleges and universities offer two and four year degree programs. Examples of traditional colleges and universities in Washington, DC include American University, Catholic University, Gallaudet University, Howard University, George Washington University, and Georgetown University. Generally, these colleges require completion of a liberal arts core curriculum in addition to coursework in a major field of study, and offer majors in subject areas (English, history, philosophy, Spanish, etc.) which may not be designed to prepare students for a particular career as well as majors (accounting, business, pre-law, education, journalism, engineering) which are career specific.
