The colleges and universities in each state are listed in alphabetical order. As you will see, there are HBCU's in Alabama, Arkansas, California, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia.
There are currently 105 HBCU's (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) in 20 states and the District of Columbia. All were created prior to 1964 and all continue to share the original mission of providing African-Americans with access to quality higher education.
HBCU’s enjoy a great historical legacy. As one example of what they have achieved, more than 50% of the nation’s African American professionals are alumni of HBCU’s.
