Missouri colleges and universities offer two and four year degree programs. Missouri is the home of traditional colleges and universities such as Avila University, College of the Ozarks, Culver-Stockton College, Kansas City Art Institute, Missouri Southern State College, Northwest Missouri State University, St. Louis University, Truman State University, Washington University, Westminster College, and William Woods University. Generally, these colleges require completion of a liberal arts core curriculum in addition to coursework in a major field of study, and offer majors in subject areas (English, history, philosophy, Spanish, etc.) which may not be designed to prepare students for a particular career as well as majors (accounting, business, pre-law, education, journalism, engineering) which are career specific.
