Hawaii State FCU: college scholarships Program

[Music] College is expensive and with cost continually on the rise the Hawaii State Federal Credit Union implemented its Lowell kalapa scholarship program where it now offers 40,000 dollars in scholarships to its members and their dependents to further their education I attended County High School I barely attended class I went on to graduate with a 1.9 GPA to Kapiolani Community to the University of Hawaii at Manoa I started working at the Hawaii capital and it kind of made me think about how important education was to me so really college scholarships made me want to go back to school aesthetic so I could make a difference for people like me so that’s where I found myself in the educational foundations program adulation Manoa where again I’m a master’s student buts so important because this is the first time I’ve ever applied for a scholarship and receiving money because of my piece what sort of person I am and

my story was very very inspiring for me since 1996 we have awarded over $600,000 to deserving students that are members of our credit union we realized that college is such an expense for most families so we felt that in 2018 we had the opportunity to increase our funding for our scholarship program so we were able to increase our funding to $40,000 there for assisting even more students and providing them more funding for their University cost and hopefully helping them graduate with less student loan debt our scholarship does not only take into consideration of student’s GPA we also look at their personal essays we look at their transcripts but we look at the community service that they’ve done in the past as well we lift a student as

a whole every single amount of money that I can get from generous donors like them helped quite a lot motivated me to work even harder in school because it was that nice extra push not incentive to work harder in school so you can achieve your dreams and hopefully have more opportunities long term goal is hopefully help the students like me the students who weren’t really interested in school after I graduate I want to teach for a couple of years where I can hopefully become an educational officer for the state of Hawaii and from there hopefully
